Be careful and don't burn your self with the iron! I am not responsible for any damage done to your skis by my waxing method. It was your decsion to follow my method and you will be held resposible for damage done to your equipment. If you are uncomforitable with this policy, please don't follow my method and get your skis waxed at a ski shop.

It is recommended that you use Swix CH-8 (wax) it is the most popular wax and is ideal for almost all conditions.

Waxing Skis; a very skillfull art.

When a skier needs to wax his or her skis, they face many decisions. Do I A) get it done in the ski shop? or B) do I do it myself? I highly suggest that you do it yourself so that you can wax the boards to your standards, not the ski shops standards.

All you need are a few simple tools. You'll need a Wax Iron (or a house hold iron), a scraper, wax, and a horsehair brush. An optional item is a polisher for the fastest speed and a glossy finish. Also you might want to invest in base cleaner, but that should rarely be used because it has a tendancy to dry out the base.

More to come shortly!

1) With your Wax (Swix CH-8) lightly rub it on the base of the skis.

2 ) Hold your iron above the skis and put the bar of wax on the hot side and drip a lot of wax onto the base of the skis.

3) After you drip wax on to the skis, take the iron and iron the wax so there is a nice coat of wax all over your base. Pretend like you're ironing clothes (you should have enough wax to let the iron slide freely on the base).

4) After that, wait one minute and using your scraper, scrape off all of the wax from a tip to tail motion. Get as much wax off as possible.

5) Once completed, and all the wax off the base, take the horse hair brush, brush from tip to tail applying good pressure.

6) If you have a polisher, polish in a tip to tail motion, applying some pressure. You may want to repeat this step a few times.

7)  Now, do the other ski.

Many people think that a good waxing will make you go faster, and it will, but it is nessary about 2-3 times a year assuming you ski 15-20 times a year. A good waxing also protects and seals the base from any conditions you might encounter.

If you have base cleaner, use it once or twice per year, and do this before you begin the waxing process.  Visit www.race-werks.com for all the waxing equipment you'll need. Or visit http://www.mammut.ch/toko/anwendung/anwendung.asp?id=618 for a more detailed waxing.
